When starting out my 28 day challenge – I was running around, filling my pantry with the bountiful fresh food that was set out for the weeks ahead, picking out new activewear (thank’s Howard and Schuback for helping me out on that one) and scheduling in my fitness classes. What I didn’t plan was who I was going to go to when my brain told me that I needed to purchase that gold foil glazed doughnut from the oh so delicious looking Doughnut Time… and what I soon found out was that if I was going to have a successful 28day challenge – all I needed to look for was my friends, they have been oh so supportive and it has made me realise how lucky we are to have people like this in our lives. From giving up their nights on the couch to come to the gym with me so I didn’t get lonely (yes I’m one of those people) to the friend who messages me with her constant wise words and tell’s me I have inspired her to go on her own wellbeing journey right down to the friend who know’s my true inner food loving – burger craving – ice cream addict self who has been tagging me in constant food craving meme’s just so I know she’s watching and keeping tabs that I don’t slip up! I honestly couldn’t do this challenge without them 🙂
I strongly belive to have a successful change in anything, weather it be a health change, a career change, a style change – it not only is more fun to do it with your friends, it is also more satisfying. I have found that not only are friend’s great to tell your goals to – but once you have told them said goals, they then keep you accountable to these stated goals – thus resulting in a more successful change! Last weekend I took a dear friend of mine to Melbourne and we stayed at the beautiful Crown Metropol – surrounded by all that amazing food and wine, my inner foodie would normally given into anything – but by having my fun loving, fitness fuelled friend with me she kept me on the straight and narrow and I couldn’t of been happier with our food choices! We dined at NOBU for dinner and all food consumed was easily ‘meal plan’ approved – I even made the Mr Hive breakfast buffet a healthy option by switching to the poached eggs instead of the scrambled, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes with out the bacon, loaded my plate up with the array of fresh fruit on offer and enjoyed a peppermint tea instead of my usual full cream latte.. In this instance my friend didn’t support me – opting for the bagels with whipped cream cheese topped with smoked salmon #sigh – but all in all it was a great weekend and it taught me that I can still go to my favourite dining area’s and still enjoy a healthy yet satisfying option!
So it is safe to say that that friend’s really are a girls greatest gift in the challenge of change. Make sure if you share this post that you tag your most inspiring friends.
